Blueberry Nut Smoothie!

Gluten free, Dairy Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, Nut-Free Option

Look at that colour!! This is such a beautiful way to break your fast or eat at any time of the day!

We love this blueberry smoothie in our family! Its super easy, super delicious, nourishing and full of protein, fiber and fat. Having adequate amounts of protein, fiber and fat ensures your body is getting all the nutrients it needs to grow, heal and repair and also keeps you full for a long time!

Why is this recipe so awesome?!
1. Anti-inflammatory!
Reducing inflammation is key to living a vibrant, healthy and happy life! The blueberries are a powerful anti-oxidant which reduces inflammation by neutralizing free radicals in our bodies! The hemp seeds and chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory!
2. Immune Boosting!
This smoothie will help keep your immune system strong or boost your immune system if you are always getting sick! Pumpkin seeds are a rich source of zinc which modulates our immune systems. The hemp seeds and chia seeds are packed with nutrients that support your immune system. They are also a healthy source of protein! The almond butter is a great source of healthy fat and protein. Fat and protein are critical for the proper function of your immune system. Hormones (chemical messengers) allow your body to communicate. Hormones are responsible for communicating that there is an invader and for our body to respond (our immune system). How does this relate to fat? Our hormones are made from fat!! So if you are not getting adequate amounts of healthy fat in your diet, you body cant communicate properly!
3. Hidden Greens!
This one makes me smile! Its so awesome you get a serving of green veggies in with your breakfast!! I love adding green veggies to all of my meals. Frozen zucchini is an awesome way to sneak in greens without tasting it! This makes the smoothie much more nutrient dense with helps with satiety. Our bodies want nutrient dense meals, so lets give our bodies what they want and have it taste delicious!

Blueberry Nut Smoothie

This was the very first smoothie recipe I created! I created it for my husband when he was starting his transition to eating healthy. I carefully created this smoothie to be delicious, full of anti-oxidants, reduce inflammation, and have tons of nutrients! I incorporated the perfect ratio's of protein, fiber and fat to nourish and fuel his body all morning long!

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Coconut Milk (Dairy Free Milk) Dairy Free Milk – See Notes
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Zucchini chopped then frozen
  • 1 cup Frozen Wild Blueberries
  • 1 tbsp Almond Butter Pure Almond Butter – See Notes
  • 1 tbsp Organic Hemp Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Ceylon Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Maca Root Powder
  • 1 tsp Optional: Real Maple Syrup Optional Sweetness – See Notes
  • 1 tbsp Pumpkin Seeds Natural Pumpkin Seeds – See Notes

Instructions
 

  • Add the ingredients to your blender in the order they are in, except for the pumpkin seeds. Start with your dairy free milk, then frozen zucchini, blueberries, almond butter, hemp seeds, ceylon cinnamon, chia seeds, and maca root powder!
  • Blend till its smooth and creamy looking. You may have to stop and scrap down the sides a few times, depending on your blender.
  • Pour into a bowl, sprinkle with your pumpkin seeds and enjoy with a spoon! Or pour into a glass, top with pumpkin seeds and enjoy!

Notes

DAIRY FREE MILK 
– You can use any dairy free milk that is unsweetened
– To make a smoothie bowl use 1/2 cup of dairy free milk
– To make a drinkable smoothie, use 1 cup of dairy free milk.
PURE ALMOND BUTTER
– This is exactly as it sounds, just almonds turned into almond butter!
– It is best to use an almond butter with out added sugar, oils or preservatives
– The only ingredient should be almonds! 
NUT-FREE OPTION!
– This is for my nut-free friends who want to enjoy my delicious recipes but are allergic to nuts or cant digest them
– Simply substitute the almond butter for your favorite seed butter. I recommend pure pumpkin seed butter, it tastes delicious in this recipe!
OPTIONAL SWEETNESS
– I don’t add any real maple syrup because I find it sweet enough without it!
– I suggest trying the smoothie unsweetened with a spoon out of your blender and see if you like it! If it needs more sweetness then you can simple add it in and blend it! 
NATURAL PUMPKIN SEEDS
– This is exactly as it sounds, just pumpkin seeds!
– Check the ingredient list of your pumpkin seeds, the only ingredient should be pumpkin seeds. It should contain no sugar, oils, nitrates, or other preservatives!
